At this session, we will be having NUS Alumni Leon Chua sharing his career experience. Leon graduated with a Bachelors in Political Science and is now an Associate Cybersecurity Specialist in GovTech. Leon manages the international engagement programme for GovTech’s Cyber Security Group and prepares Cybersecurity training for WOG officers. He also supports capability development projects for Cybersecurity Specialists. Leon’s interests lie in the intersection between technology and social issues, and technology governance.February Activities

Ong Chun Teck Chun Teck has extensive experience in both public and private sectors. He obtained his NUS degrees, first at Business School and then an M.A. (Southeast Asian Studies), while serving the nation on an SAF scholarship and counts, amongst his stellar track record, memorable experiences participating in the 2004 humanitarian assistance and disaster relief effort in Indonesia, as well as planning for NDP 2006. Given his rich operations background in MINDEF, he had opportunities to work in two of Singapore’s eminent MICE organisers, Pico and Cityneon, especially in the area of mega sports events. He is now settled in an NGO with an international network, WWF-Singapore and waxes lyrical on sustainability issues with younger team mates, some of whom are NUS alumni.

Lim Hui Yi As part of the Agri-Food team at EDB, Huiyi helps to drive industry development efforts and works with foreign companies who are interested to expand into Singapore. This creates exciting job opportunities and contributes towards Singapore’s ambition to produce 30% of our nutritional needs locally by 2030. Prior to this, she has done stints at the Ministry of Health, Marina Bay Sands and EY. She studied Geography in NUS and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences in 2020. |

Gandhar Desai Gandhar is a passionate development professional from India. He has more than five years of experience working on diverse areas including skills & livelihoods development, youth engagement, and sustainable agriculture. Gandhar holds a bachelors degree in engineering from BITS Pilani, India and a Master in Public Policy from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy at NUS. He is keenly interested in technology, politics, history, and culture. |

Class of 2020 - Samantha Thian, MS Env Management/BBA Samantha Thian is presently at HAVI Global Solutions as the Sustainability Manager for APAC where she works on McDonald's Scale For Good sustainability packaging strategy serving APAC Markets. Previously, she was in the Procurement Packaging Team for Recycled Plastics in Unilever. She graduated from NUS BBA in 2018, and NUS MSc in Environmental Management in 2021. She is currently in the Climate Action Singapore Alliance as an executive member, and the current Deputy lead for the Supporting Services sector in NEA's Packaging Partnership Program. Beyond her corporate career, she often works on sustainability initiatives on her own, such as her social enterprise startup Seastainable since 2017, and as well as developing a non-profit tech startup called Stridy to tackle litter issues globally. |

Class of 2019 - Alif Azan, FASS, BES Alif is a senior associate in Ernst & Young Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) practice. In his stint at CCaSS he has worked with a range of large multinationals and Singapore listed companies on in sectors including O&G, agribusiness, real estate on a range of sustainability related topics. These projects include – sustainability reporting and assurance, climate risk assessments, carbon reduction and net zero strategy, carbon tax verification, ESG policy integration. Prior to this, he graduated from the environmental studies (geography specialization) program in NUS. |

Class of 2018 - Megha Verma, BES (Biology and Environmental Science) Megha Verma is a Remote sensing specialist at Adatos.AI. In her current role, she uses prepared GIS layers to generate new insights using different satellite imagery for real-time geospatial analysis with ML models. Her passion is deeply rooted in Applied GIS, and it allows her to provide customised solutions to users by integrating the complex interactions between social, economic and environmental systems that are present spatially. Prior to this, Megha graduated from NUS with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies, specializing in Biology and Environmental Science. |

Class of 2022 - FASS, Global Studies & Geog Yr 4 student, Teng Chu Yu Chu Yu is a final year Global Studies & Geography major who is interested in more sustainable food, finance, and energy systems. She is concurrently the coordinator of the Inter-University Environmental Coalition (IUEC) and Students Taking Action for NUS to Divest (STAND). Occasionally, she updates an online sustainability resource bank. Previously, she interned at KPMG (Sustainability Services) last summer, where she had the opportunity to learn about corporate sustainability and international sustainability frameworks. She also used to lead NUS’s main environmental student group SAVE (Students Against Violation of the Earth) and plant-based advocacy group VEGE (Vision of Equality for a Greener Earth). |

Somsubhro Mukherjee, Ph.D. Som is a Management Consultant with the Merck group based out of its office in Singapore. After graduating from IIT Bombay with a Master’s in Biotechnology he obtained a Ph.D. from the National University of Singapore. After his Ph.D. he worked as a Research Scientist at Mechanobiology Institute on a project with the Economic Development Board of Singapore which eventually led to a start-up incubated by the NUS Enterprise. At Merck, he currently works in the intersection between science and business and helps to bring data-driven innovative solutions. |

Nichol Ng In 2012, Nichol co-founded The Food Bank Singapore, a charity which re-distributes excess foods to more than 370 non-profit organisations that reach out to more than 300,000 underprivileged. For her effort in feeding the needy, Nichol was named as one of the 10 honourees in The Peak magazine’s The Peak Power List 2016, and listed in Forbes Asia’s 2017 Heroes of Philanthropy and Harper’s Bazaar’s The Power List 2018. In 2021, she was the Southeast Asia honouree of the YPO Global Impact Award Regional, which recognises young CEOs for their impact outside of YPO, celebrating CEO impact that is both sustainable and scalable. |

Tan Hark Kah Hark Kah graduated with an Applied Mathematics degree from NUS, and she has since accumulated over 14 years of HR experience for companies like Illumina and eBay Inc. Hark Kah is currently the Head of People Operations, Singapore with Grab, a company that is committed to empower Southeast Asia through technology, opening up income opportunities to all groups of people regardless of background or ability. She is also excited to support the push for greater inclusivity at work and inspire others around her to do the same. In her role as a Human Resources professional, Hark Kah’s work has been focusing on talent planning, development and leadership coaching. |

Jackson Seng Jackson joined Schneider Electric in 2006. Following extensive business experience of varies regional and global positions in industrial automation and energy management sales, Jackson is currently the Sustainability Business Development Director for East Asia Japan region. In this role, Jackson works with customers to understand their sustainability and climate change commitment and partner with them to develop actions to achieve their decarbonization targets. He is experienced in energy efficiency program, microgrid solution, power distribution and automation, which is instrumental in driving reduction of CO2 emission for customers. |

Sanaya-Sinha Sanaya is an experienced lead at Quantum who has worked across categories including FMCG, nutrition, personal care, and technology. She has also worked in the development and public policy research sectors, with focus on sanitation, adolescent health, nutrition, and public finance. Sanaya holds a BSc in Economics and Sociology, and an MA in Development Studies. She has lived and worked across India, SEA, and Europe. |

Anthony Wong With 36 years of experience under his sleeves, Anthony Wong is a prominent player in Singapore’s F&B scene. His F&B journey began with a humble joint - Hot Stones Steak and Seafood Restaurant. The success of Hot Stones prompted him to open two more concepts within a span of three years, which then propelled him to establish the holding company – Creative Eateries. Today, Anthony has created 17 different restaurant concepts and 2 catering arms in Singapore, Malaysia, and Manila. Creative Eateries now manages 5 restaurant divisions that includes Western, Thai, Japanese, Chinese and virtual concepts that spread over 44 outlets and an extensive catering arm. |

Dr. Tony Payne A knowledgeable food scientist with over 28 years’ experience in protein based foods. He has a strong technical service history in working with customers from around the globe to understand and adapt their processes to achieve optimal performance of ingredients in various food systems. Tony understands the function of many food ingredients. In addition to plant-based protein ingredients, he has worked with gums and hydrocolloids, starches, and enzymes. His passion is understanding a food system and determine how we can use ingredients to alter the texture, structure, and flavor characteristics through process and formulation modification. He has authored book chapters in Ingredients in Meat Products on both Plant proteins and Enzymes used in meat systems. Additionally he has authored 5 journal articles, 5 abstracts and holds 2 patents and has given numerous presentations on plant-based proteins and how they are used in food systems. |

Kenneth Gan In his youth, while his friends in Malaysia would play during their school holidays, Kenneth would spend his vacation toiling in the Bordeaux vineyards, working with grapes and vats. As such, he has amassed vast experience of the vinicultural process and the wine market, which led him to being certified by the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux (CIVB) or Bordeaux Wine Council (founded 1948), representing the three families of the Bordeaux wine industry: wine growers, wine merchants and brokers. While not sipping on a glass and giving talks to students on viniculture, Kenneth runs a family real estate business spanning across Malaysia, Thailand and China and has recently set up a deli business in Singapore. |

He is also a crypto and DeFi investor, art writer and critic who has written for WSJ, Artforum, Art Asia Pacific, Bijutsu Techo, and Artinfo, and longtime Tokyo resident and Japanese art insider who has personally translated for Takashi Murakami. |

Shuyin Yang Having worked across auctions, galleries and art fairs, Shuyin Yang has extensive art world experience, much of which has been spent in Southeast Asia. Shuyin started her career in art at Christie’s, working in London, Singapore and Hong Kong. She then joined a contemporary art gallery as a director of the Singapore space, helping to develop their gallery program and art fair strategy. Shuyin was appointed Fair Director of Art Central Hong Kong in 2017, where under her leadership, the Fair saw its strongest edition to date, and was appointed Fair Director of ART SG in 2019. Shuyin brings incomparable knowledge of the Southeast Asian art world, with deep ties and networks spanning artists, galleries, collectors, curators and key players. |

Ning Chong Ning Chong has fifteen years of experience working in the professional Art world. After graduating from university, Ning studied Modern and Contemporary Art from Christie’s Education in London. She immersed herself in London’s commercial art scene, interning at auction houses including Christie’s, Sotheby’s, Phillips de Pury and White Cube. Ning returned to Singapore and joined the National Arts Council where she led the organization of high-profile projects such as Singapore Art Week (2013 – 2015) and Singapore Pavilion at the prestigious Venice Biennale (editions 2013 and 2015). Ning has built up a wide network across public institutions and the commercial art market. In 2017, Ning founded The Culture Story as a boutique art advisory to share her passion for art, promote art appreciation and connoisseurship. |
