In Pursuit of Pharmaceutical Science and Language Studies | Ashley Koh Yi Teng

July 16, 2021

Pharmaceutical Science and Language Studies may appear to be an odd combination. Not so for Ashley Koh Yi Teng, Year 4, Pharmaceutical Science, who decided to pursue Minors in Japanese Studies and Language Studies (French).

Ashley says, “I am able to see connections between my major and minors, such as the growing presence of pharmaceutical companies in Japan and France.” She had learnt Japanese in secondary school and junior college, and wanted to delve academically into Japan. She also had always been fascinated by French. So she decided to act on her beliefs and passions, and continued to pursue them.

She adds, “Many think pursuing a second major/minor adds to academic stress. However, I enjoy it as I can switch gears between the two. It has also opened up more opportunities, not just academically, but also in terms of campus life. Equally important, I have grown in terms of managing my time and priorities.”

Ashley hopes to pursue a career in medical/scientific writing, or translation and interpretation for the science and pharmaceutical industry.
