Angela Li (Food Science and Technology, 2005)

Director, Research and Exposure Science Department,
National Centre for Food Science,
Singapore Food Agency

Angela’s work in applied research and collaboration includes anticipating food safety risks through early detection of food safety concerns and advancing emerging hazard testing capabilities. She also leads the risk-based market monitoring programme and harnesses data analytics to obtain pre-emptive insights on hazards in food, to proactively track food safety trends and anticipate new/emerging foodborne hazards and risks.

From Food Enthusiast to Food Safety Professional

Food is an essential part of our daily lives. Our food supply is sourced globally and will continue to face challenges such as disease outbreaks, urbanisation and the impacts of climate change. New solutions are needed for a more sustainable food system, both in Singapore and across the world. Even as we turn to technology and innovation to strengthen our food security, it is paramount to ensure that the food we eat is safe. Food safety and security are two sides of the same coin. We cannot achieve food security without ensuring food safety. This talk charts the story of how food science education can equip us to embark on an exciting and fulfilling journey to ensure public food safety.
