NUS’ Research Centre on Sustainable Urban Farming (SUrF) was established in January 2022 to focus on sustainable urban farming research. A core team from the fields of science, engineering and computing will study genomics, breeding and biochemistry of plants, microbiomes ecology, food science, materials and polymer science, data science, computing and Artificial Intelligence (AI) expertise in sensors and image processing.
SUrF will leverage on the diverse expertise within NUS to provide a cross-boundary platform for highly integrated multidisciplinary research that improves plant performance at both pre-harvest and post-harvest stages, including harvest yield, water-use efficiency, nutritional profile and safety assurance. This initiative will deepen scientific understanding to drive innovative, sustainable and transformational solutions for the urban farming value chain.
