Uplifting our students
August 19, 2022
With the start of the semester and the lingering effects of the pandemic still being felt, the College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS) has enhanced efforts to put in place an ‘ecosystem’ to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for our students.
Balancing the demands of studies, CCAs and personal commitments can be stressful. Our dedicated teams of Student Support Managers are here to lend a helping hand and extend care to our students. Wellness activities are also organised for students to encourage interaction and provide opportunities for mutual companionship.
Year 3 student, Jessica GANADHI, who is reading Double Majors in Life Sciences and Psychology, participated in a Peer Supporting Peer Design-Your-Own-Module (DYOM) where she picked up listening skills and learned to be someone her friends can lean on.
She says, “Helping others overcome the issues they face in their personal lives taught me that supporting someone in need is not only about encouraging them to improve, but also being present in whichever place they are in.”
Peer Student Supporters (PSS) are equipped with the skills to provide emotional support to befriend and support their peers. PSS can also guide students to the appropriate support resources. They also organise outreach and wellness events to promote self-care.
Jessica led the organisation of journaling workshops to encourage students to develop multipurpose journals to improve participants’ mental wellness.
