Reinventing education in the 21st century

What can NUS students expect from the new and enhanced General Education (GE) component of their university education from now on?

In line with keeping an NUS education relevant to the rapidly changing work environment of the 21^st century, NUS has reformed the existing GE curriculum to include three new pillars, including Communities and Engagement, Data Literacy, and Digital Literacy.

Encouraging students to engage with and contribute to the community in meaningful partnerships, the Communities and Engagement pillar will provide opportunities for students to use innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives to understand and solve community problems.

The Data Literacy and Digital Literacy pillars, both grouped under “21^st Century Competencies”, will equip students with the fundamentals to face the challenges of an increasingly data-driven and technology-centric world in the future. The former will hone students’ ability to collect, analyse, and interpret data and transform it into actionable knowledge and practices, while the latter aims to teach students to use computational tools to analyse and solve problems in various disciplines and contexts.
