Vik Gopal
Assoc Prof Gopal graduated from NUS Department of Mathematics and went on to complete his PhD in Statistics at the University of Florida, United States. He worked at the Centre for Strategic Infocomm Technologies (CSIT) and then IBM, before joining NUS in 2013. He has been teaching classes in statistics and data science to undergraduates and adult learners since then. He is currently Assistant Head at the Department of Statistics and Data Science, Faculty of Science.

Liu Chunchun
Dr Liu teaches in areas across various disciplines including economics (microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, mathematical economics, international finance, game theory) as well as mathematics, quantitative finance and business. As an economist and applied mathematician, her research interests include applied game theory, applied microeconomic theory, applied mechanism design, industrial organisation and platform economy. She is currently a Lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science.

Denis Tkachenko
Dr Tkachenko’s research focuses on theoretical econometrics and its applications in macroeconomics and finance, and was published in the top five and top field economic journals. At NUS, he teaches classes in econometrics, forecasting and machine learning. He is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Making a Difference through Environmental Studies

Peter Todd
Assoc Prof Todd, a marine biologist, has been teaching ecology and marine science at NUS for 18 years. His interdisciplinary research synthesises elements of biology, geography and engineering to answer ecological and environmental questions. In particular, he studies tropical coastal organisms and communities and the effects urbanisation has on them. He is the Director of the Bachelor of Environmental Studies (BES) programme.

Susan Owen
Dr Susan is the Deputy Director of BES and an environmental policy researcher and educator who works with physical and social science research to better understand the limitations in environmental management practice. With a focus on climate adaptation policy in the context of environmental and human systems, she is interested in how we respond to the complex, and at times seemingly intractable, issues faced when developing policy to support sectoral adaptation to climate change. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.

Liu Mei Hui
Dr Liu graduated from the pioneering batch of NUS’ Food Science and Technology Programme. She received numerous food industry awards as a student. Following her first degree, Dr Liu was awarded the prestigious Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Graduate Scholarship to pursue a PhD in Molecular Biology. Her research work at the Genome Institute of Singapore, A*STAR and Cornell University brought her on many scientific journeys in the fields of molecular biology, nutrition and genomics. Her multidisciplinary research has been recognised in prestigious journals including Nature. She is currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Science.

CHS Life Sciences at NUS: One Major, Two Specialisations, Diverse Disciplines

Henry Mok
Assoc Prof Mok obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 1996 on the study of folding and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy of the DNA binding domain of the human papillomavirus E2 protein. His expertise is in determining the structural/functional relationship of proteins involved in human diseases using both NMR and X-ray crystallography. His group has determined structures of allergens from dust mites and cockroaches that lead to understanding of diseases like asthma and atopic dermatitis. Assoc Prof Mok is Deputy Head (Undergraduate Matters) at the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science.

Victor Tan
Assoc Prof Tan received his BSc from NUS and PhD from the University of California, United States. His research interests are in algebra and number theory. He was a former Fellow of the NUS Teaching Academy and has served as a member of the University Teaching Excellence Committee. As a former President of the Singapore Mathematical Society, he has organised a wide range of mathematics enrichment programmes for school teachers and students. He has received multiple faculty- and university-level awards for teaching excellence, including the Outstanding Educator Award, the highest recognition for educators at NUS. Assoc Prof Tan is currently Deputy Head (Teaching) at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science.

Li Wei
Dr Li Wei holds a PhD in Mathematics from NUS. Her expertise encompasses areas such as quantitative finance, game theory and discrete structures. She is recognised for her dedication to education and received the Faculty Teaching Award for several years (2019, 2021, 2022, 2024). Currently, she serves as the Director of the Quantitative Finance Programme and is concurrently a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science.

Assoc Prof Yau received her BSc (Pharm) (Hons) and PhD from NUS. She was awarded the NUS Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, United States before rejoining NUS’ Department of Pharmacy in 2010. She has received multiple faculty- and university-level teaching excellence awards. She is currently the Deputy Head (Education - Undergraduate Matters) and the Director of the Pharmaceutical Science Programme at the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science.

Modelling in Drug Development: Innovation Unified by Basic Knowledge in Science and Mathematics

Eric Chan
Prof Chan is a pharmaceutical scientist and pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science. His research interests are in physiologically-based pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modelling of pharmacology and toxicology; xenobiotic-derived reactive metabolite research with a specific focus on interaction with biological proteins; and metabolism-driven systems biology modelling of pathology, pharmacology, toxicology and mammalian host-bacteria interactions. He received the Dean’s Chair Professorship (2015 to 2018), Young Scientist Award (2010) and Outstanding Scientist Award (2014) in the Faculty of Science. He was a six-time recipient of the Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award and a four-time recipient of the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award.

Jia Jun
Brien is a Year 2 Chemistry student under the College of Humanities and Sciences who is pursuing a second major in Pharmaceutical Sciences. He is currently the President of the NUS Chemical Sciences Society's 37th Management Committee. He was also the Vice Project Director (Externals) for the NUS Chemistry Camp for incoming Chemistry freshmen.
Brien will share about his day-to-day experiences as a student. This includes the student life activities that are planned by the Department of Chemistry and the two student organisations under the department - the NUS Chemical Sciences Society and NUS American Chemical Society Student Chapter.

Sandiyashini is a Year 4 Life Sciences student (Specialisation in Biomedical Science) with a second major in Business Management and a minor in Public Health. She has held multiple leadership roles, including as SCAMP (2023) Project Director, 52nd Life Sciences Society President (Academic Year 2023/2024), Special Programme in Science (SPS) Induction Programme (2022) Project Director and SPS Head Mentor (Academic Year 2024/2025).
Sandiyashini will share on her involvement in the Life Sciences Society and the Special Programme in Science (SPS) and how these impacted her student life. She will also share about the public health aspects of her academic journey and her biomedical research experience, her National Environment Agency laboratory internship and her student mentorship experience in SPS. Landing and Preparing for a Quant Internship

Li Hongguang
Li Hongguang is a Year 4 Quantitative Finance student with a second major in Computer Science and a minor in Mathematics. He is currently doing a Quantitative Research internship at WorldQuant Singapore. Prior to this internship, he interned at the Agency of Science and Technology and Research (A*STAR), where he worked on improving three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction models.
Hongguang will be debunking some common misconceptions about the roadmap to a quant internship, as well as highlighting the relevance of his Quantitative Finance coursework to his internship. He will also share some tips on choosing a second major or minor(s) to supplement the curriculum and achieve your internship goals.
Navigating an Uncertain World

Seow Mao Yu
Seow Mao Yu is a Year 4 Quantitative Finance undergraduate with a second major in Statistics and a minor in Computer Science. He is passionate in quantitative research and financial risk management and is currently working as an Enterprise Risk Intern at GIC. Besides academic and professional interests, he is actively serving the community through the university's programmes and societies, notably as Project Leader in Teach Singapore (Teach SG), in Anglican Community Services and as a student composer and conductor in The NUSChoir.
Mao Yu will share about the practical opportunities presented by an interdisciplinary and flexible curriculum offered by NUS’ College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS), in particular the integrator pathway via second major and minor programmes.
